Veterans Day gives us the opportunity to truly celebrate those we appreciate while they are still among us. That’s an opportunity that we often forget to take in life. Veterans are a living, breathing history of this country and represent the meaning of dedication & service to its fullest extent. Veterans can teach us all a lesson in believing in something larger than ourselves; you always have an opportunity to uphold common values, perform service on another’s behalf, and fight for a brighter future. Bowman & Company LLP strongly supports veterans, as well as those that go above and beyond to recognize their service.
Recently, Senior Manager Mike Thilker volunteered with the Veteran support organization SJ Honor Flight. This organization gives opportunities for veterans like Jim (pictured, left) and John (pictured, right) to see national monuments & war memorials in Washington D.C. His involvement in SJ Honor Flight has lasted over seven years.
Veterans from all different regions are lodged at no cost to them for their experience at SJ Honor Flight. Similar to Mr. Thilker’ s last trip with SJ Honor Flight in April, he accompanied the veterans to breakfast at Williamstown High School. Veterans are frequently greeted at the school with cards, decorated ice sculptures, and other displays. Then, they proceeded to visit the monuments in Washington D.C., notably the Washington Navy Yard. The Washington Navy Yard is home to historical gunboat & submarine exhibits, and is the oldest shore establishment of the US Navy. The trip was concluded with transportation home, where dinner is provided. Getting the opportunity to show veterans kindness & support from the South Jersey community is a rewarding experience that brings Mr. Thilker back to SJ Honor Flight again and again.
