On Saturday June 3, 2017, Michael Thilker, CPA, Manager of Bowman & Company, proudly accompanied a WWII veteran, “Buzz”, on his first trip to Washington DC as part of Honor Flight of Southern New Jersey. Buzz served in the pacific theater of the War and was a corpsman participating in the invasion of Okinawa on April 1, 1945.
Honor Flight of Southern New Jersey began a community service project for a small group of special needs students at Williamstown High School. It quickly grew into a much bigger project. This year marked their 10th annual trip to Washington DC to visit the memorials, free to all WWII and Korean Veterans. Volunteers accompany the veterans on each trip to assure a safe and memorable experience.
“What a great day it was,” commented Thilker. He also mentioned how much he appreciated the privilege to accompany Buzz on his first trip to Washington D.C. and what an honor it was to push his wheel chair up to the WWII memorial for the very first time.
